Implementation

Jigsaw consists of six half-term units of work (Puzzles), each containing six lessons (Pieces) covering each academic year. Please view the Curriculum roadmap below to see our spiral curriculum in more detail.

Impact

Assessment in Jigsaw is both formative and summative.

The two clear learning objectives for each lesson (piece) allow the teacher to be mindful of the assessment elements within that session that can formatively help teachers pitch and plan subsequent lessons, and activities are included in each lesson.

Intent

Our intent is to teach the children two learning intentions each lesson that is specific to:

  • Relationships and Health Education
  • Developing emotional literacy and social skills.

Each child takes part in a mindfulness meditation (Calm me) which will teach the children and adults to be the present moment, clearing your thoughts and helping your mind and body achieve a sense of calm.

Our celebration assemblies are also linked to the learning objective from each puzzle piece. (Shared with Growth Mindset Champions).

Relationship and Sex Education Policy

The aim of RSE is to give young people the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate relationships. It should enable them to know what a healthy relationship looks like and what makes a good friend, a good colleague and a successful marriage or other type of committed relationship. As a school, we would always want to deliver a curriculum which has the support of the vast majority, if not all, parents. Please use the links below to view the school’s consultation PowerPoint, RSE policy, and Knowledge Organisers for Unit 6.
