RE
Implementation
At Wilbury Junior school, Curriculum Maestro is used to implement the RE curriculum to ensure we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. Using curriculum Maestro ensures progression in the subject throughout the year groups and a clear planning overview has been created to ensure sequential coverage of key learning. In order to support children in their ability to ‘know more and remember more’, there are regular opportunities to review the learning taken place in previous topics, as well as previous lessons, developing pupils' ability to store facts and skills in their long term memory. Children are given a glossary at the start of each topic which details some key vocabulary related to the topic.
Impact
At Wilbury Junior school, we have worked together to design a curriculum that supports the needs of the whole of our school community. We believe that our curriculum should be broad, balanced and relevant and meet the needs of all children whatever their ability. The curriculum taught is the National Curriculum and we ensure that all these statutory requirements are met and in some subjects go beyond these requirements. We ensure the children have a range of learning experiences that challenge, stimulate and promote thinking, learning and achievement. Through their R.E. learning, the children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life. We are a school that promotes and develops lifelong learning and excellent learning habits, supporting progress of pupils and allowing them to shine during and beyond their time at Wilbury.
