Friday 13th December
We’ve had a wonderful week at school, full of special moments and festive activities!
Christmas Performance: We were thrilled to welcome Fearnhill School, who joined us to sing Christmas songs. It was truly heartwarming to see past students singing on stage alongside our Wilbury students. Even the staff joined in at the end for some singing! It was clear that every child had the opportunity to shine on stage. After such a positive experience, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be offering two choir sessions after Christmas, giving more children the chance to get involved.
Year 3 Christingle Service: This week, Year 3 visited St Thomas Church to participate in the Christingle service, which was a beautiful and meaningful experience for the children.
Pantomime Fun: Year 3 and Year 4 children had a fantastic time at Letchworth Garden City Church, where they watched a lively pantomime as part of our festive celebrations.
It’s been a lovely week, and we are so proud of all the students for their enthusiasm and participation. Thank you for your continued support!
Audio Visual Installation in the Hall
This week, we had the new audio-visual equipment installed in the hall, which meant the hall was out of use and that today's celebration assembly didn’t occur. This will take place on Monday so we can announce the winners of this half-term house point too.
We will have the second stage of the installation during the Easter holidays.
Clubs
Club letters will be sent out today. To secure a place for your child, please book and pay through Arbor.
Please note that if we do not receive enough interest for a particular club, we will need to cancel it and offer an alternative option.
Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom
We are trialling an AI reading program in Year 5; this positively impacts progress and reading fluency. If your child is in Year 5, please ask them about it. It allows each child to read and increase their reading fluency, which is individual to them, and they are asked questions to support comprehension of the text; this is made easier as each child at Wilbury has their own Chrome book.
End of Term Mini Reports
All schools will have had end-of-term assessments, and you will receive an end-of-term mini-report informing you of your child's current academic achievement and attendance.
Next Week
Next week is busy with festive celebrations, including the Christmas dinner. If you want dinner for your child, please order it via SwiftKitchen.
Tuesday - Christmas dinner day and the children can wear a Christmas jumper if they want to.
Wednesday - Year 4 production to parents at 2 pm.
Wednesday - This year, as part of our Agora Day celebrations, we are excited to offer a unique and sustainable alternative to the usual Christmas gifts. Instead of purchasing physical gifts, we will be hosting a special "Spending Time Together" event for the children.
On Wednesday 18th December after school, children will stay until 4:30 pm to enjoy a cozy, relaxed afternoon with their friends. They will have the opportunity to:
- Watch a fun movie
- Enjoy popcorn
- Bring a pillow and blanket for extra comfort
- Wear comfy clothes for a true chill-out vibe!
This event is designed to give the children the gift of time together, focusing on creating memories and fostering a sense of community, rather than accumulating more things.
We hope this will be a joyful and meaningful experience for everyone. Thank you for supporting this more sustainable and heartwarming way to celebrate the season!
Thursday - Christmas Panto Day at Hertford Theatre - we will be attending the Christmas Panto at Hertford Theatre! Please take note of the following details to ensure your child is well-prepared for the day:
- Packed Lunch: Children should bring a packed lunch with them for the trip. Additionally, please pack a snack that your child can store in their coat pocket to enjoy during the interval.
- School Uniform: Children are required to wear their full school uniform so they are easily identifiable at the theatre. However, they are welcome to add a festive touch with a Christmas hat, headband, or Christmas-themed socks/tights!
- Free School Meals: If your child is entitled to free school meals, you can order a packed lunch through SwiftKitchen in advance.
Friday—We will sing to parents/carers at 1 p.m. in the Year 3 and 4 playground. The singing will start at 1 p.m. The Children will then go back to classes, and you can pick the children up from the usual place.
